When to Replace Your Brake Pads from Price LeBlanc Toyota

April 28th, 2021 by

Car Maintenance. Two words that sound time consuming and expensive. Did you know that if you stay on top of your vehicle maintenance, it prevents further damage and costs less in the long run? Replacing your brake pads is one way to do this! Brakes are essential and one of the most important aspects of your vehicle. Here are some signs that it is time to replace the brake pads before they are completely worn:

  • The brakes are squealing or screeching. If your brakes are making a high-pitched squeal when you apply pressure, it may be time to replace the pads. Many brake pads have an indicator that squeals when the pads are wearing down to the bottom. It squeals when the brakes are engaged, alerting the driver it is time for a replacement.
  • Less than ¼ inch of padding left. Drivers can visually see it is time to replace the pads when there is less than a quarter-inch of brake pad left.
  • Hearing a metallic grinding when driving. If you hear a sound like metal grinding – it is past time for your brake pads to be replaced. If you hear this sound, it is time to get your vehicle to a service shop as soon as possible to replace the brake pads and check for any damage.
